Earth Day spruce up

Master Gardeners were out in force in Clanton Wednesday replanting hanging baskets, flower pots and flower gardens throughout the city.

More than 1,000 plants were distributed to more than 20 volunteers who began planting at 9 a.m. with the assistance of Clanton’s three-person Beautification Department and Marty Martin, a consultant to the Beautification Department.

The Master Gardeners is an organization which donates the efforts of its members to help keep Clanton beautiful. Paul Atchison serves as president of the organization.

Those participating Wednesday included JoAnn Johnson, Joan Davis, Wayne Freeman, Julie Soileau, Gwyn Loyd, Margaret Goolsby, Linda Turnipseed, Jewell Robinson, Peggie Harris, Rick Miller, Allen Word, Joy-Ellen Loyd, Ann Baker, Karen Phillips, Paul Atchison, Rodney Cooedy, Terry Crim, Bobby Cook and Ricky Quincy.

The participants were given suggestions as to what to plant where by Martin who encouraged the gardeners to “have fun.”
