Contribute your sports story, photo

Though there is plenty of spring sports action left to cover, summer will be upon us shortly. Summer—with its warm weather, plentiful sunshine, flip flops, rocking chairs and ice cream—would be my favorite time of the year except for one little thing: the lack of varsity level sports to cover.

Of course, we will still fill up the sports page every day. We just have to be more creative. But you, a reader of The Clanton Advertiser, can help by contributing your stories and photos.

Send us pictures of the giant fish you or a relative caught. Let us know about the fantastic finish to a youth league baseball or softball game we missed.

Speaking of which, we will make a renewed commitment to youth league sports. Check our print edition and www.clantonadvertiser.com for coverage, which will include standings provided by the various leagues in the county. Visit spotted.clantonadvertiser.com for galleries of photos, which can be purchased.

The opportunities for community involvement in our local sports coverage doesn’t end there. Please send us nominations for players of the week. We recognize one male and one female athlete each week for their athletic performances. Just like any other content you want to contribute, bring your player of the week nominations by our office at 1109 7th Street North (across from Winn-Dixie) or e-mail them to stephen.dawkins@clantonadvertiser.com.

I’m tasked with putting together your sports page in your newspaper, you might as well help out.
