On March 29, the children of Mae Stewart gave her a surprise party at Maplesville Bake Shoppe to celebrate her 90th birthday.

She was born April 1, 1919. Mae, her husband Charlie and children moved from Perry County to Chilton County in January 1953. She was the owner and operator of Mae’s Beauty Shop in Maplesville for many years.

Mrs. Stewart lost her beloved husband in February 1997, after 62 years of marriage. Mrs. Stewart has five children, including Hugh (Deanna) of Tuscaloosa, Leonard (Mattie Ruth) of Tuscaloosa, Betty Morgan of Jasper, Ga.; Jimmy (Nina) of Maplesville and Charles (Gerri) of Haymarket, Va.

She has 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. With the exception of one grandson and his family, and two great grandchildren, all of Mrs. Stewart’s family members were at the party.

Mrs. Stewart is still active in church and enjoys reading, playing Scrabble, watching TV, dining out and shopping.
