The walls and floors of Pates Chapel Baptist Church were shaking with the vibrations of 66 motorcycles that participated in the Ride to Live Cancer Free – a fundraising event that drew nearly 100 bikers to the church Saturday.

During the event, the church exceeded their goal of $6,500 toward Relay for Life.

“We love bikers,” Pastor Clint Harris said during a devotion after the ride.

“I think the event for the first time was a great success,” said Terry Cobb, event director, church member and a biker himself.

The 70-mile ride started at Thorsby’s Richard Wood Park and included Calera, Montevallo, Maplesville and Clanton. After the ride, all the bikers congregated in the fellowship hall for lunch.

Harris and Cobb indicated they would like to make the event an annual thing.

“We usually get really fired up for Relay,” Cobb said.
