The CITY Program of Chilton County will hold its sixth annual golf tournament fundraiser Saturday, May 9 at the Clanton Country Club.

Tee times are 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and the format is a two-person scramble. Cash prizes will be awarded in each flight.

“We have wonderful support from the community,” CITY Program Coordinator Betty Tidwell said. “We get great door prizes from local businesses, and the fast food places are wonderful about providing food at no charge.”

The tournament raises funds for student incentives such as trips to Montgomery Biscuits and Birmingham Barons baseball games, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, an annual cookout, and items students can purchase with earned points.

The CITY program, which helps students who have fallen behind in school for numerous reasons, allows students to earn a GED or get back on grade level so they can attend college or pursue a career.

Last year, after expenses, the tournament yielded $2,300, most of which came from sponsors.

Normally, between 20 and 30 teams participate in the tournament, which is open to anyone who wants to play.

“Hopefully, we’ll have more than that this year,” Tidwell said. “We invite everyone to participate so we can keep helping out these young people in the community.”

The entry fee is $150 per team or $75 for individuals. This includes lunch but does not include golf cart. Mulligans will be available for $5 each, with a limit of two mulligans per player.

Pre-registration forms are available at the CITY Program or Clanton Country Club. For more information, call Tidwell or Tonya DuBose Powell at 755-2779.
