Pennie Broussard might tell you it was an act of Congress to plan for this year’s Peach Jam Jubilee. While that may be true, it’s more literal than figurative.

Birmingham area band Act of Congress will headline this year’s Peach Jam, scheduled for Friday, June 26 in downtown Clanton at 6 p.m.

The group’s style, influenced heavily by progressive bluegrass, has been described as “pop-grass with a touch of Nickel Creek.” Act of Congress will take the stage at 9 p.m. following Soundshifter, Blast from the Past and Southern Pride.

“We’ll kick everything off at 6 o’clock,” said Broussard, executive director of the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce.

About 25 vendors have signed up for the event. These include food, arts and crafts, games and more.

“We’re sending out applications daily,” Broussard said. “It’s getting closer, the weather is getting prettier, and people are thinking, ‘What can we do?’”

Kiddy rides will be in the parking lot behind City Hall. Food vendors will set up in the courthouse parking lot, and the entertainment acts will use the stage at Corner Park.

At stage right on the corner, Peach Jammers will find a merchandise tent containing items from the artists.

Also, the Clanton Fire Department plans to have their new ladder truck on display if the truck is received by the first of the month.

After the entertainment, local radio station The Peach will hold a give-away about 10 p.m. The prize is to be announced.

“This is our fifth year,” Broussard said. “Come help us make it another memorable Peach Festival for Chilton County.”

Motorists should note that portions of Sixth Street and Second Avenue North will be closed during the Peach Jam.
