Crossing should be addressed

Dear Editor,

I was born in Maplesville. The railroad crossing off Highway 22 past the wood yard is a tragedy waiting to happen again.

A few months past, we discussed this with Mayor Kurt Wallace of Maplesville. The mayor said this issue is one of his priorities. I hope the state will help address this serious issue. The rail road crossing is the only way in or out of the striving community.

Fact is, vehicles have been struck at the crossing. I don’t know if the vehicles were struck because of an emergency, trying to outrace the train, or just plain negligence.

As long as I can remember, only one way in or out of this community. God help the community if an emergency occurs and a train is blocking the crossing. Does anyone care?

By the way, this is an all-black community.
