Clanton’s City Council used a portion of its time last night rezoning property.

Property on Lay Dam Road that is adjacent to The Pumpkin Patch was rezoned to Residential-3. Before Monday the property was zoned agricultural.

Property at 910 7th Avenue South (the old location of Mims Flowers) was rezoned from M-1 to Business – 2.

In other business the council opened bids for two pick-up trucks. Ben Atkinson Chevrolet of Tallassee submitted the apparent low bid on the regular cap pick-up truck at $13,802. Other bids on the regular cab pick-up were Clayton Bailey Automotive, $18,886; Ernest McCarty Ford, $13, 865.75; Larry Puckett Automotive, $18,470.38, and McKinnon Motors of Clanton, $14,864.55.

The apparent bid on the extended cab pick-up was submitted by Clayton-Bailey Automotive, $19,160.25. Others who submitted bids on the extended cab pick-up were Ben Atkinson, $19,954; Earnest McCarty Ford, $21,244.55; Larry Puckett, $23,637.58 and McKinnon Motors, $23,136.55.

The council also approved resolutions for non-matching grants for technology equipment and for computers and cameras for its police department. It approved a motion to make Nathaniel Moates full time and for Almon and Associates to inspect city bridges again this year. The cost of the bridge inspections are expected to be $4,000 to $6,000.

The council also agreed to check its budget to determine if it can assist the C.I.T.Y. Program May 1 through Sept. 30. Betty Sewell told the council the program needed $67,000 to fund teaching positions at the Clanton-based facility.
