A car ran off the road in northeastern Chilton County Sunday night, but the incident was not as serious as it initially sounded.

The vehicle reportedly lost control near a bridge on County Road 249 about 8 p.m., coming to rest in the woods. One person had to be extricated — or cut out of the vehicle — because of the vehicle’s position, but there were no major injuries that resulted from the crash.

“The car barely made it off the roadway,” Gap of the Mountain Rescue Chief Anthony Marcus said.

Gap of the Mountain and Union Grove fire and rescue departments responded to the incident because it occurred near a weight-restricted bridge. A fire engine was waiting on both the north and south sides of the bridge.

While the cause of the crash is unknown, officials speculated that the vehicle might have jumped gears, causing it to spin out of control.

There was only one vehicle involved in the incident. All people involved refused transport to a medical facility, Marcus said.
