Alabama and Auburn fans will have to put off their day after Thanksgiving shopping this year and next after CBS announced Friday that the game between Alabama and Auburn will start at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 27.

According to the Associated Press, the schools have played on Friday just five previous times, but the network is moving this the game.

CBS Sports said it would televise the next two Iron Bowls nationally on Friday on the last week of the Southeastern Conference’s regular season schedule.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Alabama head coach Nick Saban said, “I really wasn’t for moving the game, to be honest with you, to Friday. I like to play it on Saturday. I’m glad the game is on CBS. I think it’s great exposure for both schools, and certainly for our state. So that’s a very positive thing.”

According to the release, this year’s game will be on Nov. 27 at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium, while the 2010 game will be played on Friday, Nov. 26 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

CBS has the first two TV picks for Thanksgiving weekend under a 15-year contract extension signed last August, SEC spokesman Charles Bloom said. The network airs games on both Friday and Saturday.

The last time the game was held on a Friday was in 1988 in Birmingham’s Legion field. Auburn won 15-10.
