Local churches are opening their doors to the community over the next four days in observance of Holy Week and Easter Sunday.

Clanton First United Methodist Church will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 6:30 p.m. and a Good Friday service at noon followed by a light lunch. Both services will be in the sanctuary.

Traditional Easter services are scheduled for 8:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the FUMC sanctuary Sunday, as well as a contemporary service at 9:30 in the worship center.

Clanton First Baptist is doing something a little different this year. Saturday and Sunday night the church will present “Let All Heaven Rejoice,” a musical/drama that tells the entire story of Christ, including the Christmas story.

“We’re going to do the Christmas story, have a brief intermission, and then do the Easter story,” Minister of Music Jimmy Tompkins said.

The first scene depicts Jesus in heaven being commissioned by the angels to go change the world. The story then proceeds with the birth, Jesus as a child, followed by the death, burial and resurrection.

Playing the role of Jesus is Stacy Adams of local gospel group Holy Destiny.

“He sings a lot,” Tompkins said.

The program is narrated by Shannon Walker, who also has numerous singing parts throughout the production.

The entire cast and crew comprises more than 100 people, including the church’s adult choir. Both presentations will begin at 6 p.m. in the Christian Life Center.

“The program is designed to last slightly over an hour,” Tompkins said.

Other services this week include the final Lenten Luncheon at Walnut Creek United Methodist Friday at noon. Bro. Tony Hughes will speak and Jennifer Baker will provide special music.
