It took four games and two wins over Chilton County on the hottest day so far this year, but Isabella’s softball team on Saturday finally won its Mustang Invitational tournament.

Isabella also won the tournament in 2008, its inaugural season.

This time, the Mustangs (10-3) gritted out a 9-6 win and a 6-4 championship game win over CCHS (6-5) after losing to the Tigers, 13-8, in the second game of the day.

Chilton opened the tournament with a 9-6 win over Billingsley, and the hosts eliminated the Bears later with a 5-3 decision.

Krysta Tyler earned the win from the circle in the decisive game. She pitched two games for the Mustangs, as did Raelynn Liveoak.

Isabella trailed, 2-1, before striking for three runs in the fifth inning and two more runs in the sixth inning.

Chilton County threatened with two runs in the top of the seventh, but the Tigers could get no closer.

CCHS hosts Selma at 4:30 p.m. Monday, and Isabella hosts Calera at 6 p.m. the same day.
