YMCA to offer swimming lessons again

The water is an important part of the swimming lesson equation.

Clanton City Pool was closed last year for repairs, so no lessons. The pool should reopen next month, though, and the Chilton County YMCA plans to offer lessons once again.

The city is replacing the pool’s drain covers as required by a new federal regulation, and the Y will take over on May 1, said Rachel McKinnon, the organization’s director.

“We hope to have the pool open again for Memorial Day weekend,” McKinnon said.

The YMCA will offer four two-week sessions, McKinnon said, and those interested should visit the YMCA.

McKinnon said the Y needs 10-15 Red Cross-certified lifeguards for the pool. Those interested should pick up an application at the YMCA.

The pool will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. There will be pool parties during the evenings but none on Sundays.

Also, the YMCA’s summer camp will begin June 1, and registration for the camp has begun.

McKinnon stressed that the YMCA offers financial assistance for the camp to those in need. Visit the YMCA during business hours for more information.
