United Way announces 2009 grants

Chilton County’s United Way Board of Directors has released the amounts of grants given to area organizations.

Chairman of the Board Curtis Smith said the grants are issued for the current year and the organizations receiving grants change from year to year.

Chilton County’s Humane Society was awarded $17,200, the largest grant awarded. The board also awarded $250 to each school in the county (total of $3,000) to help purchase supplies.

Other grants include Civil Air Patrol, $1,500; the Department of Human Resources’ Christmas and School Supply program, $1,500; Chilton County Extension Service 4-H program, $1,000; Raleigh’s Place of Chilton County, $700; PEECH, $2,000; Arthritis Foundation, $500; Freedom Forum, $1,000 Special Olympics, $1,000; Chilton County Rescue Squad, $250; Project Kids Christmas program, $2,000; Maplesville’s Toys for Kids Christmas program, $7,00.

The grants amount to $32,350. Earlier this month the board allocated more than $132,000 to member agencies.
