Chilton County’s offense let the team down for the second consecutive baseball game against Class 5A, Area 5 opponent Demopolis.

The Tigers (11-8, 2-2 area) lost 4-2 at Demopolis on March 31 and fell 5-3 at home on Friday.

The loss puts Chilton County in third place in the area behind Demopolis (7-15, 3-1) and Carver-Montgomery, who played Selma on Friday. Only the top two teams in each area advance to the state playoffs.

Chilton County hosts Carver at 4:30 p.m. on April 7 and visits Carver for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on April 10. The Tigers will probably need to sweep those games to have a chance at a playoff berth.

All the CCHS offense Friday came on two swings of the bat, and the hosts managed only four hits overall.

Tanner Powell blasted a solo home run to left field to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning, and Ben Handley singled home Bradley Cleckler and Derek Coker in the seventh inning for CCHS’s only runs of the game.

Handley took second on the throw in from the outfield and represented the game-tying run, but a Jacob Kerby strikeout ended the game.

Kerby was the winning pitcher for the visiting set of Tigers. He walked three and struck out six.

Demopolis scored one run in the first, inning one run in the second, one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth off CCHS starter Chance Calloway.
