Yes, there are cards and money involved, but it’s not gambling. A Minooka Park Poker Run is for all ages and is good, clean fun.

The park’s Spring Poker Run is Saturday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Gates will open as usual at 9 a.m.

“It’s really just all luck,” Park Manager Gerald Arrington said, explaining that speed and ATV riding skills are not big factors in the outcome of a poker run. “It is not a race, so you don’t have to be the fastest rider or even know how to play poker to win.”

The poker run is open to all ATV and dirt bike riders regardless of age or experience level.

Admission to enter the contest is $10 with 100-percent payback. Everyone entering the run will receive a $5 discount off regular admission, so an adult entering the run will pay $10 admission at the gate and a $10 entry fee for the poker run.

“All entry fee money goes into the pot, so the more riders the larger the prizes and the more winners,” Arrington said.

How it works: Stations will be set up at five different locations on the trails. Each station will have a bucket with a certain color bead. Once you collect all five colors, report to the office and exchange your beads for five playing cards. These cards will form a poker hand, and the rider with the best hand wins.

Riders may enter as many times as they like and draw a corresponding number of beads. Each entry is $10.

Also, the trail system will be open to all recreational riders and the park will be open as usual for anyone who wishes to participate in other activities. There will also be a food vendor in the main office parking lot.
