Rainfall in Chilton County in the first quarter of 2009 is more than double the rainfall that occurred in 2007 when the county, and much of Alabama, was caught in the grips of a severe drought.

Bobby Boozer of the Chilton Research an Extension Center in Thorsby said Wednesday Chilton County has recorded 20.61 inches of rainfall since Jan. 1 this year. During the same period in 2007 the county recorded 8.49 inches of rainfall. The county experienced 16.61 inches of rain during the same period in 2008.

Thunderstorms are forecast for Thursday throughout Chilton County and rain is in the forecast again for Sunday night.
