Jemison cleaning up in April

JEMISON — If you’re a pack rat who is considering changing his ways, there’s no time like the present.

April is cleanup month in the City of Jemison, the one time of year when the city picks up unwanted household items along with regular garbage.

Citizens are asked to spend the month clearing their homes and yards of everything they wish to discard. The city will pick it up during the last week of April.

“For the next three weeks, people need to decide what they want to throw away,” Mayor Eddie Reed said. “These are items that we don’t normally pick up.”

There are certain items the city will not pick up, even during cleanup month. These include old tires, batteries, chemicals and especially anything containing hazardous materials.

If any of these things are placed by the roadside, the city will not pick them up, Reed said.

All other items should be placed where residents normally leave their garbage on the week beginning Monday, April 27.
