The Chilton Civic Chorale and the Central Alabama Performing Arts singers are once again teaming up to produce a joint concert this spring. Praises 2009 will be coming soon to a church near you, bringing a program of sacred music to the community for the 16th season. The program will include classic anthems, spirituals and a toe-tapper or two.

Rehearsals are underway and will continue on Thursday nights at 7 in the choir room at Clanton First United Methodist Church. As always, new voices are welcome to join in on the fun.

Brief, informal vocal auditions, by voice part, not solo, will be conducted early in the rehearsal time. Singers are not required to read music but should be able to hear and follow the part for which they are auditioning.

Directing this year’s concert will be Brannon Littleton of Lawley. Brannon has sung with the Chorale and CAPA and has directed church music in several locations around Alabama and beyond. He studied music at the University of Montevallo and Indiana Wesleyan and brings a high level of energy to rehearsals.

The first “Praises” concert will be in the sanctuary at First Methodist on May 31 at 2 p.m. The time and date of the second concert is to be announced.

Those who would like more information or would like to participate in Praises 2009 should call Ann Mims at 755-2240 or Mike Curry at 755-8700 (daytime) or Marsha Littleton at 688-2360 (evenings).
