“Fret not thyself because of evil doers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good, so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Thought for the week: “Beyond Our Asking”

“More than hearts can imagine or minds comprehend, God’s bountiful gifts are ours without end. We ask for a cupful when the vast sea is ours, we pick a small rosebud from a garden of flowers, we reach for a sunbeam but the sun still abides, we draw one short breath but there’s air on all sides. Whatever we ask for falls short of God’s giving, for His greatness exceeds every facet of living, and always God’s ready and eager and willing to pour out His mercy completely fulfilling all of man’s needs for peace, joy and rest — for God gives His children whatever is best. Just give Him a chance to open His treasures and He’ll fill your life with unfathomable pleasures, pleasures that never grow worn out and faded and leave us depleted, disillusioned and jaded. For God has a “storehouse” just filled to the brim with all that man needs if we’ll only ask Him.”

The Rev. and Mrs. Elijah Good will celebrate his 32nd anniversary as pastor of the World’s Church of the Living God tomorrow at 11 a.m. Special guest ministers from Chattanooga, Tenn. will be special guests. All churches are invited.

Worship service at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Jemison began with a praise service by the praise team of prayer, scripture and songs. Songs sung included “Glory Hallelujah,” “God Is a Good God” and “I’m Still Holding On.” The scripture was read by Perry Nunn with prayer by Pastor Dukes and Carl Singleterry.

The morning message was given by Pastor Dukes. His theme was, “Do You Love Me?” How many love him? What do you love more, money or Jesus? Your family more, your house, your possessions? Nothing comes before him. The blood of Christ is more than anything; we are not to put ourselves before God. He who trusts in self is a fool.

Love Christ and go out and work for him, feed his sheep. Love is action — get restored and do what you need to do for Christ; be like Peter and go forward. Get justified, sanctified and in the end glorified. If Jesus is in you, you have power.

God is all knowing but also kind. Jesus was kind to Peter when he restored him, and when you stray away he will restore you. He is seeking for you. Why did Peter sin? Because of pride and resting in his own ability. He did not have a good prayer life. He went to sleep instead of praying; that’s why it’s important to read your Bible. Pray and talk with someone daily about God.

People will get you out of fellowship with God. Remember, Peter started to act like the others cussing around Jesus’ enemies. Three times Peter denied Christ and had three chances to rectify it. Whom do you love more than God; whom get more attention, Jesus or your things? If you love someone, fellowship with him or her. Go feed Jesus’ lambs, then he will know you love him.

The service concluded with fellowship led by Pastor Dukes, deacons and the congregation.
