Renovations are underway at Jemison High School’s athletic complex, including a major overhaul of Panther Stadium.

Through a coupon book fundraiser and other contributions, the school has raised $11,750 toward the project, and the Athletic Club has secured the loan amount of $35,000 from Regions Bank.

“The Athletic Club and Regions Bank have been instrumental in making this project a success,” Principal Alan Thompson said. “The City of Jemison provided a work crew with tractors and dump trucks to complete the demolition and cleanup. This project would not be possible without their help.”

The crew has demolished broken blocks and cement slabs and has completed site preparation for the replacement of blocks and slabs. The workers are also in the process of removing old fencing. The new blocks should start going into place as soon as next week.

“Once the blocks are replaced, the slabs will be next then the coating of the stadium. The final phase will be the replacement fencing,” Thompson said.

Thompson estimates the project to be complete by mid-May. He said he hopes this will allow the school to hold graduation ceremonies in its newly renovated facility.

“We are still accepting donations from area businesses and from individuals,” he added.
