A 28-year old woman has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 60-year old resident who was stabbed in the heart with a butcher knife Monday night.

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis said yesterday Kori Lee Norris Scott, a resident of County Road 151, is being held in Chilton County’s Jail where she spent much of the day being interviewed by investigators.

He identified the victim as Donald H. Kemp a resident of County Road 1051 where the murder occurred about 9 p.m. An autopsy indicated the victim indeed died from a stab to the heart.

“The victim called 911 reporting that an altercation between Scott and himself had occurred and requested assistance. When the deputies arrived, they found him (Kemp) lying on the floor with a stab wound to the chest,” Sheriff Davis said.

“The suspect was lying next to the victim. She had scrapes and bruises but nothing life-threatening.”

Davis said the couple had a prior history of domestic violence and that the suspect had been in court within a few days of the incident over a prior case.

He said the investigation has not turned up a reason for the slaying at this point. “We are also not sure the exact relationship between the victim and the suspect,” Davis said.

Davis said he expected her bond would be set today.
