YMCA cuts a sign of the times

The Chilton County YMCA has been a pillar of our community for decades, so it’s disappointing to see that the Y is having to cut two of its programs, basketball and cheerleading.

The organization will, without a doubt, still provide crucial services to both children and adults in the county, but here’s another example of the national economic downturn sparing no one.

YMCA’s board of directors decided there was not sufficient monetary intake or participation to sustain the programs, and Executive Director Rachel McKinnon said the programs could be reinstated in the future if the need arises. Here’s hoping it does.
