After going homerless in its first 10 games of the season, Jemison’s baseball team exploded for four home runs yesterday.

The Panthers (5-7) picked up wins over both Maplesville, 10-5, and Colbert Heights, 10-6.

The first game of the day was scoreless until the top of the third inning. Jemison’s Eric Argo led off with a ground rule double, and Kris Lowrey, Donny Eslinger and Kyle Dennis all had run-scoring singles later in the frame.

But the Red Devils (0-4) responded with five runs on six hits in their half of the inning. Singles by Bobby Smith and Tanner Hunter drove in four of the runs, and Casey Atchison had a run-scoring double.

Then, Jemison’s Alex Campbell crushed the first pitch he saw to lead off the fifth inning with his team’s first home run of the season and tie the game.

Teammate and fellow freshman Jackson Mims connected on a three-run shot one inning later to provide a cushion.

The Panthers would also score two runs in the seventh on a single by Mims.

Zak Kaylor earned the win for Jemison by pitching four innings of scoreless relief of starter Dennis. Kaylor allowed one hit and three walks while striking out two.

Maplesville’s Brett Seales suffered the loss after relieving Tyler Crumpton with the game tied at six and with one on and no outs in the sixth.

Lowrey earned the win for Jemison in the second game.

The power surge continued as Christian Briscoe and Patrick Sims went deep.

The next game for both teams will come in the Chilton County baseball tournament, which begins March 13 at Jemison.
