Graduation exams begin Monday

Graduation exams for most high school students of Chilton County schools will begin Monday with math testing.

The exams will continue Tuesday with reading, followed by language on Wednesday, social studies on Thursday and biology tests Friday.

Although seniors who hadn’t passed their science tests started this past Friday, there were very few of these students, said Pam Harris, testing coordinator for Chilton County Schools.

She added that all sophomores and juniors must take the biology test twice, that is, two consecutive years.

“They’re testing these kids twice, two years in a row, so they can get cut scores to decide what the passing score will be,” Harris said.

As always, she reminds students to be prepared not only mentally but also physically to take the exams.

“This is our biggest testing time of the year,” Harris said, asking parents to help see to it that their students are prepared.

“Their children need to get in bed early on those nights and eat breakfast the next morning so they won’t be tired and they will be alert,” she said.
