Heavy rains from Friday and Saturday’s storms caused some flooding in Chilton County yesterday morning.

It was so bad in some areas that the County Road Department closed several roads because of the flooding. Chilton County Emergency Management Agency Director Bill Collum said that County Roads 46, 109, 231, 151, 173, 455 and 61 were all closed for a while yesterday.

Radar estimates showed that the majority of Chilton County received at least 4 inches of rain during the storm with some areas in the southern part of the county collected as much as six inches of precipitation.

Tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for the county over the two-day period, but no major damage was reported.

Today, however, the National Weather Service is predicting snow. According to its multimedia briefing yesterday afternoon, between one and two inches of snow is expected to fall.

A winter weather watch has been issued for all of Central Alabama including Chilton County until 3 p.m. today.

After the precipitation ends this afternoon, much colder weather is expected to filter in. High temperatures for Monday should be in the 50s while lows will be in the 20s.
