Smith continues to lead education in Chilton

Curtis Smith is a very active resident of Chilton County area. Smith is involved in numerous charities including United Way, Emergency Assistance Center, YMCA, Red Cross, PEECH, Heart Association, C.I.T.Y. program and West Alabama Rehab. He has worked for 32 years as an educator where he held positions including principal, vocational counselor, vocational supervisor and director. He spent 20 years working as a state representative and has spent the last eight years working on the Chilton County Board of Education. He is also a member at Mulberry Church where he serves as a deacon.

Smith is married to Mary Marjorie McAfee and together they have three sons, Greg, Vince and Andy Smith.

He said that he has always enjoyed helping people and that over the years he has been grateful for the opportunity to serve the county.

“I really enjoy working with people and I like doing work with the public. Right now at the board we are being faced with some tough issues and we are hoping to figure out the appropriate ways to spend money on education through this period of proration,” he said.
