For Chilton County Superintendent of Education Keith Moore, there is an almost mystical connection between athletics and education.

The former baseball, softball, basketball and football coach, as well as physical education instructor, has worn just about every hat there is to wear in school athletics.

But Moore has taken the coaching mentality much further than the field. His 12 years as a school administrator show he demands the same kind of respect — and teamwork — anywhere on campus.

“Athletics and education really go hand in hand,” Moore said. “Both are important in their role.”

If anyone has a perspective on the Chilton County School System, it’s Moore, because he has literally run the gamut. From janitor to bus driver to principal to superintendent, he’s done it all.

“I got into teaching because I love kids and I love sports,” he said. “I just felt like I wanted to do everything I could do for the children of Chilton County, so I decided to run for superintendent.”

The lifelong Chilton County native graduated from Verbena High School in 1980 and earned his degree in physical education from Faulkner University in Montgomery in 1988, and his Master’s from the University of Montevallo.

He and wife, Kim, have two children, Kipp and Kala.
