Entertainment acts are needed for Chilton County’s upcoming Relay for Life event April 24. These include not only musical acts but also volunteers for face painting and other activities.

“We want the whole community to be involved,” said Jerry Grooms, member of the Relay Logistics and Entertainment Committee for Chilton County.

Relay begins at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, April 24 and continues through the night until 6 o’clock Saturday morning. It takes place at Clanton’s little league football field off Lay Dam Road.

Acts already confirmed for Relay include local gospel group The Samaritans, local band Southern Pride, a combined gospel choir consisting of several local churches, and a magic act.

Also, a group of students whose lives have been touched by cancer will sing the national anthem. Each of these students either has a cancer survivor in their family or has lost a loved one to cancer.

“All these students have [close family members] who are teachers or are involved in the Board of Education in some way,” Grooms explained. “We’re just trying to get as many young people involved as we can. [Cancer] affects them as much as it affects everyone else.”

There will also be plenty of attractions for kids, such as inflatable rides, Grooms added.

Anyone who wants to sing a song, do face painting, dress up as a clown, or provide some form of entertainment should call Grooms at 755-6795 or 312-1024. Relay team members are also encouraged to set up a campsite to decorate on the night of the event.

“That’s the fun night,” Grooms said. “It’s sort of like a big tailgate party.”
