The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., has placed Chilton County and much of South Alabama in a moderate risk of severe weather today.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop today from noon until 10 p.m. ahead of an approaching cold front.

Isolated super cells with large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes are expected to develop across much central Alabama from noon until 6 pm. After 6 p.m., thunderstorms with damaging winds and hail are likely immediately ahead of the cold front as it continues to push southeast.

The stormy weather is expected to subside by 10 p.m., and much colder weather will follow the front.

High temperatures are expected to reach the mid 50s Thursday with a low Friday morning in the 20s. Temperatures are predicted to remain cool as another rain event passes through the area this weekend.
