Man injured after early morning crash

Friday the 13th didn’t get off to a good start for a Verbena man Friday morning after he was injured in a wreck on I-65.

An SUV overturned in the median after it collided with a truck near mile marker 224 northbound at 5:55 a.m. Donald Carden of Verbena was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Union Grove and Jemison fire departments responded to the crash. Emergency officials had to use extrication tools cut the victim out of the vehicle.

His condition or the cause of the crash was not available as of press time.

The northbound left lane of I-65 was shut down for a few minutes during the morning rush hour traffic. No one else was injured.

Alabama Department of Public Safety spokesperson Dorris Teague said another crash happened in almost the same spot of I-65 minutes later. No one was injured in that incident.

Alabama state troopers are investigating both crashes.
