Three boys teams went wire-to-wire at No. 1 in the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s basketball rankings.

Class 5A LeFlore, Class 3A Madison Academy and Class 1A Talladega County Central have stayed atop their classifications all season. The final rankings were released today.

LeFlore (24-2) hasn’t lost to an in-state team while Madison Academy (25-4) has losses to three Class 5A teams and a school from Tennessee. Talladega County Central has lost to only Class 5A teams this year — with one game in dispute.

The Tigers stopped their game with Class 5A Sylacauga on Saturday in the fourth quarter after an altercation. Sylacauga was leading by 15 points when the game was stopped.

Alabama High School Athletic Association director Steve Savarese said Tuesday that he would not release his decision on any punishment. He also said it was up to Talladega County Central how to count the game.

“You’ll have to ask Talladega County Central,” Savarese said. “I’m not going to tell you.”

Talladega County Central coach Cornelius Brown wasn’t at school Wednesday, but Sylacauga is counting it as a victory. If Talladega County Central also counts it as a loss, the Tigers finished the regular season 22-4.

In the girls poll, five of the seven teams were ranked No. 1 throughout the season. Class 5A Talladega, Class 3A Madison Academy, Class 2A Cold Springs, Class 1A McIntosh and AISA Lee-Scott all stayed atop the poll since the beginning. Class 6A Sparkman and Class 4A Midfield both started the season at No. 2 before ascending to the top spot and staying there.
