Scams have become more common and more devastating as con artists have developed newer strategies to steal of the hard-earned money of decent Americans.

It’s good to know someone is looking out for us, and Joseph P. Borg, director of the Alabama Securities Commission, is doing just that. Borg told the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday that he has seen investment fraud in Christian churches in the state.

Churches are often looking for an opportunity to build new facilities or upgrade existing ones, so they are ripe for fraud.

We’re glad Borg is going after these con artists, but these cases demonstrate a need for all of us to be more cautious with our money. In these troubled economic times, there are more people out there that would like nothing more than to steal that money.
