TUSCALOOSA — Alabama is seeking to expand Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Athletic director Mal Moore said Tuesday that he will seek the board of trustees’ approval to add more than 9,000 seats and 36 skyboxes. That would push the capacity up to 101,000.

Moore, university President Robert Witt, Vice President for Financial Affairs Lynda Gilbert and trustees have spent more than a year exploring an expansion.

The university estimates the project would cost nearly $81 million.

It would include a food market and merchandise store at street level and two new video boards on the corners of the upper deck to replace the current south end zone scoreboard.

If approved, construction would likely start this spring and be completed before the 2010 season.
