Thorsby’s and Jemison’s boys teams have played six times in the past year, and each game has been decided in the waning moments.

Thorsby last night won the latest edition in a series of nail-biters, 64-59, the team’s fifth win in its last six tries against the Panthers.

Jemison led 28-18 at halftime, but the Rebels erased the deficit by outscoring the hosts 22-10 in the third period.

Thorsby pushed its edge to as much as seven, but Jemison trailed by only two points with as little as 38 seconds left in the game.

The difference was Thorsby’s free throw shooting late; the Rebels made nine of 14 from the charity stripe in the fourth period.

Eddie Hubbard paced the visitors with 15 points, nine of which came in the fourth. Teammate Andrew Farris scored all 12 of his points in the second half, and Marcus Bray also had 12.

Jemison’s Christian Briscoe led all scorers with 20 points.

Jemison played perhaps its best basketball of the season in a loss.

The Panthers cut the lead held by a faster, bigger and more experienced Thorsby team to only two points with about three minutes left in the third quarter but could never come closer.

Thorsby’s Sharonda Cooper had a game-high 16 points. Amanda Hubbard had 11 points, and Stephany Harris was good for 10.

Shelby Lopez led Jemison with 14 points, and teammate Kelsey Mims had 10.
