The water situation at the Town of Thorsby’s wells is improving.

Town superintendent Terry Jackson said the town’s wells are almost back to the levels they were at when they were first opened. Currently, the supply is only four feet below full level.

“The rain has really helped over the last couple of months,” Jackson told Thorsby’s Town Council last night at a regular meeting.

Jackson also said his workers will begin to repair potholes this week.

His department also had a significant water line break last week on one of the main lines that supplies water to the town. He said his workers were able repair the damage, and they also performed some ground maintenance that should prevent further breaks.

Earlier in the meeting, the Town Council decided to cancel its second meeting this month and to hold a work session Feb. 9 to discuss the town’s budget.

Mayor Dearl Hilyer said they needed the time to show the council a proposed budget that would outline all of the town’s expenditures.

“It will cover things from new computers to pay raises,” he said. “It will also help us get ready to make a budget next year.”

In other business, the council:

voted to go into executive session to discuss the good name and character of an individual.

rejected bids to sell the 1975 Ford dump truck, 1991 International dump truck and a 2002 Dodge van.

agreed to pay Hilyer for going to Washington, D.C., for a conference, in which he will be meeting with congressmen about the possibility of obtaining grants.

heard from fire chief Lee Gunn about the fire department. The department had 38 calls for the month, including two structure fires. At least 16 recruits are signed up for the firefighter school, Gunn said, and they will be completing physical tests this week.

heard from Jackson about putting in flagpoles for the Armed Forces in honor of those who are serving in the military.
