Two years after what was supposed to be a fatal car accident, Savannah Smitherman, a senior at Chilton Christian Academy, participated in her last home basketball game as a Lady Patriot and was recognized by shooting the ceremonial first shot of the game when CCA hosted Calvary on Jan. 23.

Smitherman has undergone much therapy, and her spirits have remained high through it all. Her recovery has been an inspiration to her teammates throughout her last season in high school.

“It has been a privilege to be a part of her life and she makes us all thankful for the life God has given us,” athletic director and girls coach Todd Stephens said.

She will continue to be a part of the team as it finishes the season. Savannah will graduate high school in May, but she will always be a Lady Patriot.
