Mustangs shoot past Red Devils

Brandon Veazey connected on five first-half 3-pointers, the Isabella defense suffocated Verbena all night, and the Mustangs won on Thursday, 84-28.

Veazey connected on his first four 3’s, and Austin Haigler added another in the first half as the hosts came out on fire. In fact, the Mustangs didn’t miss a 3-pointer until Veazey was off the mark from the right corner with 4:34 left in the half.

Isabella led 42-11 at the half.

Veazey finished with a game-high 24 points, Brian Donovan added 19 points and Haigler had 18.

Brad Boswell led Verbena with 12 points.

Isabella girls 41, Verbena 30

Isabella built a 10-point lead in the first half on Thursday but watched Verbena scrap back into the game before the hosts put it away in the fourth period.

Marquiska Deramus drained a 3-pointer with 1:43 remaining in the third quarter to pull the Red Devils to within one point of the lead at 25-24, but Isabella’s Kimi Jones sank a jump shot in the right corner at the end of the third quarter to make it 29-24 and the hosts owned the final period.

Deramus led all scorers with 16 points, 14 of which came in the fourth.

Felicia Brasher had 12 points for Isabella.
