Whatever you’re into, whether it involves kicking a ball around, learning to be a little lighter on your toes, or catching up on your homework, you can do it at the Chilton County YMCA.

The Y is holding registration for spring soccer from now through Feb. 27, and this year the age range has been extended through 18.

“We extended the age to cover all grades,” program director Angie Wright said. “We start with preschool.”

There are usually four to six teams for each age group, and you can sponsor a team for $200 or $400. The program fee is $65 for members and $75 for non-members, including uniforms and awards. Financial assistance is available based on need.

The first game is March 28, and the season will last through May 16.

“It’s not based on ability. Everybody plays, everybody wins,” Wright said.

Also, taekwondo classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday in three age groups — ages 5-7 at 5 p.m., ages 8-12 at 5:45 p.m., and adults (13 and up) at 6:45.

Dance classes are available for preschool, beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Styles taught include ballet, tap and jazz. Classes are held each Monday beginning at 4 p.m.

In other Y news, a Spanish tutor is starting this week to assist Spanish-speaking children in the after-school tutoring program. The new instructor will help translate for both students and parents.

“We have found that’s a need because more and more of them are starting to come in,” Wright said.

Tutoring is free and is offered for all grade levels and subjects Monday through Friday from 3:30-6:30 p.m.

“You don’t have to be a member to participate,” Wright pointed out.

The Third Annual Miss YMCA pageant is March 28 at the Chilton County High School auditorium. Registration will be Feb. 28 from 9-4 and March 1 from 1-5 at the YMCA building.

Age divisions will include Baby Miss (0-1), Wee Miss (2-3), Tiny Miss (4-5), Little Miss (6-8), Young Miss (9-11), Junior Miss (12-14) and Miss YMCA (15-18).

Entry fee is $35, and admission is $5.
