Isabella girls, boys fall at Pickens Co.

In a must-win game for the Lady Mustangs, they played one of their best games of the season. It was not enough, though, as the Lady Tornadoes of Pickens County played excellently at both ends of the court.

The final score on Friday was 41 to 34 Pickens County, but the play was much closer than the score would indicate. Poor reactions to full court pressure and some suspect officiating were the difference in this game.

Isabella’s Amber Wyatt led all scorers with 14 Points and had 19 rebounds with seven Blocked shots.

In Reform on Friday, it seemed like a reformed Isabella offense came out after the break to assert some muscle against the No. 2 team in the state.

In the first half, the Tornadoes seemed unstoppable. The only time that they didn’t score was when they messed up on their own. Isabella couldn’t get out of the gate, and Pickens County led at the half by 18 points at 34 to 16.

But Isabella came out in the second half with a determination to take it to the Tornadoes. The Mustangs drove with almost mad intensity.

The defense of Pickens County, a tough man to man, was unable to keep up with the smaller, quicker guards of Isabella.

The offense was driven by Del Green, whose ball handling and desire led the Mustangs back into the game. They were able to get the Tornadoes into some foul trouble.

If the Mustangs had made some foul shots with their new-found ability to drive against the Tornadoes, they would have done well in the second half, but the game ended at 55-24 for Pickens County.

Brian Donovan led all scorers with 14 points and had eight rebounds, Green scored five and had seven rebounds and Austin Hagler had four with four rebounds for Isabella.
