Jay LeCroy, sponsor for Isabella’s EnviroBowl team, is excited to announce that on Tuesday, Jan. 20, Isabella High School will have a team participating in the 16th annual EnviroBowl Competition.

This regional competition was specially designed by Legacy Materials, an enrichment program for environmental education. During the event, questions are posed to competing groups of students.

“Some rounds will be answered by individuals, and others may take a group effort. Either way, all of the students that are on the team get to participate, and it is a lot of fun,” LeCroy said.

Every game is played in two rounds. The first round directs two questions worth 10 points apiece to pairs of teammates. The second round consists of 20 toss-up questions, worth 10 points each followed by 10-point bonus questions. All of this takes place within a 20-minute time limit.

The questions come from a variety of environmental related subjects including forestry, wildlife, chemistry, waste management, ecology, geology and pollution.

The point of the competition is to test what the students know about the environment they live in.

Rep. Jimmy Martin helped fund the trip to the competition, which is set to take place at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

“We are very thankful to Mr. Martin for helping us,” LeCroy said.

The first, second and third place winners of the regional competition will be accepted into the state competition.

The winners of the state competition will receive awards as well as a trophy for their school. On top of their winnings, they will also be given the chance to win a $1,000 scholarship.
