The victim of Thursday’s fatal crash on County Road 75 has been identified as a native of Georgia.

Deputy Coroner Awlahjaday Agee said the victim was John Henry Jackson, 57, who has lived in Clanton for the last couple of years but is originally from Fort Riley, Ga.

He was the driver of the 1989 Chevrolet Astro van that left the roadway in the middle of a curve, flipped and hit a tree one mile south of Clanton City Limits at 2:45 p.m. Thursday. The van came to rest on its side.

Agee said Jackson was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene due to blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead at 4:10 p.m. Thursday.

Jackson’s wife, who was a passenger in the van, was still in UAB hospital as of press time. Her name or condition was not available as of yesterday evening. Another male passenger in the van wasn’t injured.

State troopers are investigating the crash.
