MONTGOMERY — Keep those heavy coats and gloves handy. Alabamians likely will experience an Arctic blast this week.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service say a series of cold fronts will enter the state starting Tuesday and will produce breezy conditions.

The Arctic air will send temperatures plummeting into the teens on Wednesday morning. Overnight temperatures on Thursday and Friday could fall into single digits.

Remember, when preparing for severe cold, don’t forget the four Ps — check on people and protect pets, plants and pipes.

Residents are urged to make sure spaceheaters and fireplaces meet safety standards.
