Another county basketball tournament is in the books, and Chilton County High’s boys team has another trophy. Its seventh in a row, to be exact.

This time, though, the CCHS joined their counterparts in the winner’s circle.

The Lady Tigers played perhaps their best of the season in the championship game win over a Thorsby team that was both the defending champion and the No. 1 seed. Chilton’s girls showed they are a much-improved team from last year (when they lost to Thorsby in the tournament’s final game) and even from earlier this season.

The Rebels, girls and boys, have nothing to hang their heads about though both their trophies say second place on them. Thorsby deserves commendation for just having both teams in the championship games. The boys, especially, hung tough for a while with a team that should have put them away much earlier than the fourth quarter.

In the end, this county tournament had just about everything. There were good games and bad games. There were games postponed because of the threat of severe weather. There was a fight in the stands. And there were much larger crowds than last year, which was good to see.

The Clanton Advertiser’s coverage of the tournament won’t end with today’s newspaper. Check Tuesday’s edition for pictures and lists of names of the boys, girls and B-team champions; the boys, girls and B-team all-tournament teams; the coaches’ all-county football team and the Craig Hunnicut Scholarship Award winner.

If you missed any of our coverage of the tournament, you can always visit www.clantonadvertiser.com or come by the office and ask for copies of old editions. Also, browse spotted.clantonadvertiser.com (no “www” at the beginning) for every picture taken at the tournament (there are more than 400 of them). The pictures taken of the award winners mentioned above will also be made available, after they run in the newspaper.
