The LeFlore High boys are no longer unbeaten, but two holiday losses didn’t cost them in the Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings.

The Rattlers (16-2) lost twice to nationally ranked teams in the pre-Christmas Iolani Classic in Hawaii. They lost to Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) by four points and Fairfax (Los Angeles) by two.

LeFlore finished fourth in the 16-team tournament, which featured five nationally ranked teams. Oak Hill is fifth, Fairfax ninth and LeFlore 13th in the most recent USA Today national rankings. USA Today’s next rankings are Jan. 13.

The Rattlers won twice last weekend in the Hoops in Overdrive Shootout in Atlanta, including a one-point win over another nationally ranked team, and beat St. Paul’s by 30 Tuesday.

There are three new No. 1 boys teams in the ASWA rankings.

In Class 6A, Baldwin County, after beating previous No. 2 Daphne on Tuesday, took over for Sidney Lanier, which lost to Class 3A Central-Hayneville during the Christmas break. In 4A, Andalusia succeeded Deshler after Deshler lost twice. In the AISA, Tuscaloosa Academy beat Warrior Academy last weekend and the two swapped their 1-2 spots.

The only change at the top of the girls poll came when Class 4A two-time defending champion Midfield knocked off previously No. 1 Ramsay to take over the top spot. Class 6A Sparkman, Class 5A Talladega, Class 3A Madison Academy, Class 2A Cold Springs, Class 1A McIntosh and AISA Lee-Scott all stayed No. 1.
