MONTGOMERY — Alabama Attorney General Troy King has proposed an ambitious package of crime fighting bills he wants the Legislature to pass during the regular session that begins Feb. 3.

The package includes a measure that King says would resolve confusion over which convicted felons are allowed to vote under Alabama law. The bill by Rep. Randy Wood of Anniston would prohibit all convicted felons from voting unless their rights are formally restored by the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles.

Other bills would provide for stricter monitoring of the activities of convicted sex offenders and make cock fighting a felony offense in Alabama.

Another bill would require hospitals and other health care providers to report to law enforcement officers when they treat someone for a gunshot wound.
