After the lead changed hands several times in the first three minutes on Monday, Montevallo methodically built an edge that Jemison could never threaten.

The Bulldogs won, 75-51, to advance to the fifth-place game of the Champion Sports Medicine Shootout, which is being hosted by Calera High School. The Panthers (1-8), meanwhile, will face Holtville at 3:30 p.m. today to determine the tournament’s seventh- and eighth-place finishers.

Montevallo on Monday led 17-12 at the end of the first period of play, 34-23 at halftime and 55-36 after the third quarter without any overwhelming runs.

Twelve points from Christian Briscoe and 10 points from Teddy Poe kept Jemison within striking distance for a while.

Montevallo’s Brandon Lilly led all scorers with 27 points.

Calera 107, Chilton Co. 95

Chilton County High missed out on an opportunity to reach the tournament’s championship game when it couldn’t break the Calera press in the third quarter.

The Tigers (7-3), who were led by Vincent Olanrewaju’s 27 points and Kenyon Floyd’s 16, will play Shelby County High at 6:30 p.m. today in the third-place game.
