Chilton County High picked up the defensive intensityin the second half of a 82-43 win over Pelham to advance in the winner’s bracket of the Champion Sports Medicine Shootout, which is being hosted by Calera High School.

The Tigers (7-2) at 8 p.m. Monday will face the winner of Saturday’s Jemison-Calera game, which ended too late to be included in this edition.

CCHS struggled to find its shooting rhythm in the first half and allowed several layups on the defensive end to an overmatched squad. But Kaland Farrow scored all of his team-high 14 points before intermission, and the Tigers led 38-30.

Chilton shot the basketball and defended much better in the second half and built a 61-39 lead by the end of the third quarter.

In addition to Farrow, Josh Williams (12 points), Kenyon Floyd (10) and Vincent Olanrewaju (10) scored in double digits for CCHS.

Pelham was led by Tyler Minyard’s 14 points.
