TROY — Troy isn’t expecting to cash in financially on its New Orleans Bowl trip.

Athletic director Steve Dennis said he is hoping to make enough from Sunday night’s game with Southern Mississippi to cover expenses. Troy ended up $15,000 in the red after participating in the game two years ago.

Troy can also reap the benefits from the exposure of playing on national television.

Still, the Trojans’ bowl trip to New Orleans is very different from the one Alabama will make nearly two weeks later for the Sugar Bowl. The New Orleans Bowl payout is $325,000. The Sugar Bowl’s is $17 million.

Troy also gets money from tickets sold for $40 through the athletic department.

Troy earned the bowl trip by winning the Sun Belt Conference championship.
