After one fast-paced, crisply-played quarter on Thursday, Jemison appeared poised to challenge host Chilton County High the whole game.

But the Tigers (2-5) forced their visitors to play more halfcourt basketball the rest of the way and cruised to a 47-30 win.

The Panthers (0-6) shot well and benefitted from Katika Nunn’s offensive rebounding to trail only 13-12 at the end of the first period, but CCHS opened the second on a 15-0 run that wasn’t stalled until Codi Mims hit a jumper with less than 2 minutes to play in the half.

Chilton led 28-14 at the break and 41-24 after three quarters.

CCHS’s Bevin Hawkins led all scorers with 23 points. Teammate Tylita Harrell had nine, and Jemison’s Katika Nunn had eight.
